RE: Vermont campground

P.S. Sorry...Not sure if Gold Brook has full hookups or not...we had our pop up at the time and weren't really using the hookups much... you'd have to call them to see.

RE: Vermont campground

We've stayed at Gold Brook in Stowe as well--would go back again if we headed up that way. It is very open, I think the best sites are the ones that back up to the brook IMO.
It's a good place to have as a base for activities.

RE: Other New Prospective Buyers

Camping has such a wide variety of options that it's affordable for just about anybody if you put some thought into it. You can tent all the way up to using a motor home...just decide what you are most comfortable affording to do, and go that route. IMO I wouldn't "waste" precious time wondering about the economy...get out there and have some fun, no matter how you do it. Buy a small TT or pop up if that makes you feel better, then if finances and the economy take a turn for the positive and you feel more confident, buy something bigger at that point.
I think a lot of us have done it that way. We started camping in a tent then used an old '72 pop up that was given to us for 2 years before deciding to make the leap and purchase a TT. Good luck!

RE: Next stop, SW Maine and White Mountains

Whew...glad some others agreed about Danforth vs. Chocorua...I started to feel like I was being too negative, but I want them to have a good camping experience here!
We love MiTeJo too...you can tell the good ones, they're so hard to get in to! We book them a year in advance sometimes.
We're heading out soon to White Lake State Park for the first time...can't wait to check out a "new" CG.

RE: Next stop, SW Maine and White Mountains

Wishing you well at Chocorua Camping Village, I think their website is misleading, IMHO; we made reservations there based on their website, drove through one day to check it out and then canceled...if you can get in to Danforth Bay you should try it. We've heard good things about Cove Camping Area, too. Wherever you stay, definitely pop up to North Conway; beautiful views, shopping (Zeb's :)) and you can drive the Kancamagus from there. North Conway is probably 1/2 hr or so from Chocorua.

RE: Yogi Bears Jelly Stone

We've stayed at the Jellystones in Ashland, NH; Luray, VA; and Sturbridge, MA...they all vary because I think they are independently owned. Just do research on the particular one you want to go to. We loved Ashland and Luray but did not like Sturbridge at all--we would never go back to that one. The Jellystones are pricey, too. They have a ton of amenities/activities but you pay for it. I think we've paid an average of $50-$60/night. We've started going before Memorial Day or after Labor Day because they cut the rates, still have activities and the weather is still nice :)
If the one your thinking about going to is nicely kept and your looking for a resort/campground, we think it's worth going...our kids love it.
Hope this helps.

RE: Road Restirctions

Just re-read the OP; I don't think rvtrips.com will tell you where you can and can't go with an RV, but it will map out the trip avoiding certain obstacles that you don't want to run in to, once you know what you need to avoid :B. Sorry...

RE: Road Restirctions

You could try rvtrips.com and click on "trip planner".
We used this when planning a trip from New Hampshire to Virginia and we put in the criteria to avoid tunnels, bridges etc.
Hope this helps.

RE: Camping lights/Decor!!!!!!

Yes, I always put up lights around our awning, they are multicolored flowers. I call them my "cheesy lights" :)
We use tiki torches sometimes, too. We enjoy checking out how others have decorated their sites. Some people really get into it, like at Halloween or if it's Christmas in July or something like that. We don't get quite that into it, but it is festive.

RE: Misquito repellent or remedy?

I think I'm going to try the Listerine idea as well. My daughter's Girl Scout leader just passed around an email about this idea last week, now seeing it mentioned here too, I think it's worth a try.

RE: 01 Suburban 1500

Don't remember specifics about weights etc, but we used to tow a 24'Jayco with a '95 1500 Suburban, no problem. We did put a transmission cooler in it.

RE: Owning and operating a campground

I bet it's not as fun as it seems...we went through something similar when DH was a boat mechanic...watching everyone else go off and have fun with his hobby while he worked long hours all summer to make it happen for them. No thanks. Got out of that type of work and bought our own boat!

RE: Fryeburg Fair in Maine

Your brave :B!!!
We go to Fryeburg Fair every year, but don't camp there, we stay at a CG outside of Fryeburg and drive in for the day. It looks like an interesting experience though, definitely crowded, dusty, not a real camping atmosphere, but could be fun for the whole experience. Have a great time, the fair is the best!!

RE: Help Please - Cape Cod Area or Portland Maine Area

Definitely a good choice to try the Cape on this trip; I agree that you won't have enough time to really get into Maine in a quick day trip or an overnight. Have fun!!

RE: NEVER STAY HERE-SUNROCKS RV PARK

I have owned an RV for 35 plus years and have traveled extensively. NEVER have I experienced such a terrible place as this one in PRINEVILLE, OREGON! Truly the RUDEST park people I have ever heard of. They also charged $4 per child staying with the parents in their own RV! Don't they know that camping is a FAMILY EXPERIENCE? THEY SHOULD BE RE EVALUATED AND REMOVED FROM THE DIRECTORY. They are so un professional and not worthy of belonging to such a great organization as Trailer Life!
I can understand that you might have found the park people rude, but honestly how much time did you spend with them to have it make you so upset? We all run into rude people at some time or another. Just separate yourself from them, go back to your campsite and carry on. Try not to let it ruin your trip next time, life is too short. Learn from it, don't go back if you didn't like it, and move forward to new experiences somewhere else. That's about all you can really do.

RE: GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado

P.S. If your trying to add "help" to your mpg, maybe add a tonneau cover if you don't have one already...can't hurt....we put one on our truck right after we bought it for extra cover, but maybe it's helping our mileage :) (I'm a positive thinker, can you tell?)
BTW, DH says he thinks we are actually getting 11-12 towing the TT.
Great post...I've been wondering myself how others with the same truck are faring with fuel mileage.

RE: GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado

My '05 Chevy Silverado Z71 (54K miles) is averaging 20-21 around town, 23-24 Highway (65mph), and 10 towing our 28 ft TT.

RE: Teen's Summer Job

Our solution: camp nearby so your teen can come and go to work directly from camp. May not be your ideal camping location, but for a couple of years until they're on their own or off to college, it will be worth the compromise.

RE: Mechanic almost destroyed my transmission

DH (the mechanic) says: why not find someone who knows what they are doing and take it to them? We don't all "drag our knuckles" :)
Some of us are actual professionals...trained and experienced. How many Allison transmissions do you have in your "backyard"? I don't have any...
